ISTANBUL COOKING CLASS
Hello everybody, Would you like to cook with us? Would you like to learn to prepare the most delicious Turkish treats? Nothing is easier – and more fun!
Our kitchen is only one subway (metro) station away from Taksim Square in the neighborhood of Kurtuluş (formerly known as Tatavla) which is one of the few that have preserved their original socio-ethnic composition since the 17th century Ottoman period and where Muslims, Jews, Armenians and other Christians are still living together in peace.
We start our day with a relaxing walk and shop our way through the streets, stopping at small authentic shops that have been in business for generations. On Saturdays we have the chance to shop at one of the three organic farmers’ bazaars of İstanbul.
…Time for some çay? Let’s head home, drink our çay and chat a bit to get to know each other better in a relaxed atmosphere. And then it’s time to get to work! Put on your aprons and get ready to learn how to prepare six different dishes from the Turkish cuisine that we have chosen for you. You can choose the language of the course: German or English. But don’t worry; the food will be genuinely Turkish! Curious about Turkey? We’ll tell you all about Turkish customs and traditions, our history and heritage while cooking together. We are happy to share our knowledge accumulated in 25 years of tourist guiding and 7 years of professional cooking experiences with you.Now everything is ready and we can already hear our stomachs growling! Let’s set our “çilingir sofrasi” and enjoy our meal with a glass of rakı. Drinking rakı has its own special culture that we are happy to experience together with you. We finish our day with a cup of delicious Turkish coffee and “yolluk” We are looking forward to meeting you – or do you have a better plan?

I`m Aysun Hanquet,
My Mom was a master tailor and a terrific cook. I worked in the textile industry, dressed people for years, and cooked with enthusiasm and made people`s stomachs happy thanks to the mastership I learned from my mom. But now its time to share these experiences on a professional level. I`m happy to have the opportunity to use my English and German and keep them alive.
